Griffo announces construction grants for public libraries

New York State Senate Deputy Minority Leader Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, announced today that several public libraries throughout his district will receive library construction grant funds. The projects are supported by a $34 million capital fund appropriation in the 2018 State Budget for construction and renovation of public libraries and public library systems in New York State.
The following grants were awarded to libraries in Deputy Minority Leader Griffo's district:
- Dunham Public Library: $90,988 for interior and exterior renovations including a HVAC upgrade.
- Mid York Library System: $118,820 for new parking lot and other exterior renovations including an ADA compliant entrance.
- Utica Public Library: $72,198 for interior renovations, including a new lighting system.
- Waterville Public Library: $21,829 for boiler replacement and exterior renovations.
- Western Town Library: $33,446 for electrical system changes and safety measures.
- Hepburn Library of Norfolk: $13,405 to refurbish historic arch windows for energy efficiency.
- Lowville Free Library: $24,091 for roof upgrades and a generator.
- Lyons Falls Library: $79,009 for exterior renovations and stairway replacement.
- Norwood Public Library: $73,997 to expand the children’s area, create a new teen space and install sidewalks.
- Potsdam Public Library: $297,017 for new HVAC, lighting and other interior upgrades.
Deputy Minority Leader Griffo said, “Our public libraries have evolved into more than just a place where people can check out books. They are now community spaces that offer a variety of important services and resources to families, seniors and residents. I know that this funding will help our libraries to flourish and to become an even stronger part of communities they serve.”
