LYONS – Senator Pam Helming recently visited Lyons Senior High School to recognize student-athletes from the boys varsity basketball team that won the section championship during the winter season. She also honored the valedictorian and salutatorian from the graduating Class of 2019. Senator Helming presented a New York State Senate Proclamation to Head Coach Dean Schott II on behalf of the boys basketball team and New York State Senate Citations to the individual players. She also presented Citations to valedictorian Mary Grasso and salutatorian Shea Prosser.
“As New York State Senator, I am proud to recognize citizens for their outstanding achievements and significant contributions in their communities. I especially enjoy honoring students for their accomplishments, whether in academics or in extracurricular activities. It was a privilege to pay tribute to the Lyons Lions boys varsity basketball players for winning the Section V, Class C2 championship. It was also a pleasure to meet Mary and Shea, recognize their academic excellence, and learn more about their future goals and plans. Whether on the court or in the classroom, this kind of success does not come easy and is not handed to anybody. It takes a group of people who are willing to work together as a team and give everything they have. It takes a tremendous amount of diligence and persistence, commitment and determination, especially to balance practices with homework, extracurricular activities, jobs, and other obligations. Congratulations to Coach Scott and his team as well as Mary and Shea on their respective honors,” Senator Helming said.
