CLIFTON SPRINGS – Senator Pam Helming recently visited Midlakes High School to recognize student-athletes from the girls varsity basketball team that won the section championship during the winter season as well as theater students from the Midlakes High School Theatre Experience that earned several awards during the Rochester Broadway Theatre League’s Stars of Tomorrow presentation. Senator Helming presented a New York State Senate Proclamation to Assistant Coach Todd Jones on behalf of the girls basketball teams and New York State Senate Citations to the individual players. She also presented Citations to Mr. Keith Childs, theater program director, for production-wide awards for the spring musical and to students who received individual awards for the production.

“As New York State Senator, I am proud to recognize citizens for their outstanding achievements and significant contributions in their communities. I especially enjoy honoring students for their accomplishments, whether in the classroom, in extracurricular activities, on the sports field, or on the performance stage. It was a privilege to pay tribute to the Midlakes Screaming Eagles girls varsity basketball players for winning the Section V, Class B championship and advancing all the way to the New York State title game as well as the cast and crew of the Midlakes High School Theatre Experience for earning several Rochester Broadway Theatre League Stars of Tomorrow Awards. Whether on the court or on the stage, this kind of success does not come easy and is not handed to anybody. It takes a group of people who are willing to work together as a team and give everything they have. It takes a tremendous amount of diligence and persistence, commitment and determination, especially to balance practices with homework, extracurricular activities, jobs, and other obligations. Congratulations to Assistant Coach Jones and his team and Mr. Childs and his group on their respective honors,” Senator Helming said.
