Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) announces the New York State Senate has approved legislation (S.6593) that would authorize Erie County to waive certain fees associated with capital improvements to posts and facilities owned by veterans’ organizations.
“American Legions, VFW Posts and other organizations play an important role in our communities and support our veterans in many ways,” Senator Gallivan said. “These groups should not be forced to raises member dues in order to fund construction and building improvement projects. This legislation gives Erie County the option to waive certain fees associated with such work.”
The bill, sponsored by Senator Gallivan and Assemblyman Pat Burke (D-Buffalo), authorizes the county to waive building permit fees and other costs associated with capital improvements to any post or hall owned by a not-for-profit congressionally charted veteran’s organization located in Erie County.
The bill has also been approved by the Assembly and will be sent to the governor.
