Statement from Senator Harckham on the Death of Leonard N. Spano
February 10, 2019
(Mt. Kisco, NY) Senator Pete Harckham (40th Senate District) released the following statement today after learning of the passing of former Westchester County Clerk Leonard N. Spano:
“My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Leonard N. Spano, a longtime prominent figure in Westchester County, who devoted much of his life to public service. My most memorable impression is that he was always a gentleman even when on the opposite side of an issue - something rare and so desperately needed in the world of politics. For over three decades, he served the county in different capacities including as a legislator on the Westchester County Board of Legislators and as the County Clerk. We'll keep his son, Michael, who is the Mayor of Yonkers, and the entire family, many of whom followed him into public service, in our thoughts and prayers."
New York State Senate District 40 includes parts of Northern Westchester (Briarcliff Manor, Buchanan, Cortlandt, Croton-on-Hudson, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Salem, Peekskill, Pleasantville, Pound Ridge, Sleepy Hollow, Somers, Yorktown) Putnam (Brewster, Carmel, Patterson, Southeast) and Dutchess (Beekman, Pawling).
