SENATOR ANTONACCI RESPONDS TO 24/7 WALL STREET’S MARCH 5 REPORT THAT LISTS NEW YORK AS HAVING THE HIGHEST TAX BURDEN IN THE COUNTRY

On March 5, 2019, Samuel Stebbins of 24/7 Wall Street (a content partner of USA TODAY) reported that New York State has the highest tax burden in the country. New York State Senator Bob Antonacci’s (R-C-I-UJP, Onondaga) shares his response:

“In the first two months of my term as state Senator, I have yet to see a bill submitted to the governor that reduces the cost of doing business in the state,” said Senator Antonacci.

Senator Antoacci continued, “What I have seen in my first two months are more unfunded mandates and additional costs to our businesses and local governments. The cuts to local government funding in the Governor’s budget are draconian and discourteous, only adding to the increasingly high tax burden. Local entities were not even given advance notice of cuts despite having already prepared their budget for the next fiscal year.”

Governor Cuomo’s proposed Executive budget called for $59.2 million in cuts to the AIM program, which provides operating aid to local governments throughout the State. The new election laws passed this year are the most recent unfunded mandates that have been imposed on local governments.

Senator Antonacci is a lawyer and Certified Public Accountant. In addition to being a member on the New York State Senate Finance Committee, he is on the Senate Subcommittee on Revenue and Budget, the Senate Internet and Technology Subcommittee, and is a Ranking Member on the Senate Committee on Banks.
