Sens. Kaminsky, Kaplan and Assemb. Solages Secure Nearly $800,000 in Smart School Aid for Sewanhaka School District

(Elmont, New York) — New York State Senators Todd Kaminsky and Anna Kaplan, along with Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages secured nearly $800,000 in Smart School funding for the Sewanhaka Central High School District. 

“We must equip our students with the necessary tools to ensure a prosperous and vibrant future upon leaving the Sewanhaka School District,” Senator Kaminsky said. “This investment in education sets the foundation for success and I am happy to be able to play a role in helping our children achieve their goals.”

These funds will be used to purchase new iPad devices for 7th graders in Elmont Junior-Senior High School, Sewanhaka High School, Floral Park Memorial High School, H. Frank. Carey High School and New Hyde Park Memorial High School.

“My top priority is always ensuring that our public schools have the resources they need to give our kids the best shot at success when they go out into the world,” Senator Anna Kaplan said. “I’m thrilled to have been able to help the Sewanhaka Schools make this critical investment in our children’s future, and I look forward to our continued work together to ensure they have all the tools they need to succeed.” 

The Smart Schools Bond Act funding was used to offset the initial costs of phasing in the iPad 1:1 program, which is now in its fourth year. Devices are being used to create a digital educational environment that is focused on personalized learning and creativity. 

“Alongside Sewanhaka Central High School District, we remain committed to making the necessary investments into our children’s future, which includes ensuring equitable access to state-of-the-art technology,” Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages said. “I look forward to expanding on our efforts to enhance the educational opportunities of our students.”

“We are grateful for the approval of the final installment of our Smart Schools Bond Act funding, which has helped us accelerate and enhance our iPad 1:1 program,” Sewanhaka Superintendent Dr. James Grossane said. “All of students and faculty have benefited from this funding as we continue our journey to transform teaching and learning in our District.”
