NEW YORK -- Today, State Senator Brad Hoylman (D/WF-Manhattan) launched the Make A Mask NYC! competition, encouraging children and creative adults across New York City to design their own Halloween-themed face masks and win the recognition of a panel of distinguished judges in the fashion industry. The special guest judges for the competition are Lady Bunny (founder of Wigstock and judge on RuPaul’s Drag U), Dr. Joyce Brown (President of Fashion Institute of Technology) and Simon Doonan (Creative Ambassador-at-Large for Barney’s). Entries will be accepted through November 6th.
Senator Hoylman said: “Having Halloween in a pandemic doesn’t need to stop us from getting into costume and celebrating in style. That’s why I’m thrilled to announce my Make A Mask NYC! Competition to showcase the incredible skills of New Yorkers of all ages and the spooky Halloween-themed masks they come up with. Our distinguished panel of judges is #SquadGhouls: Lady Bunny, Simon Doonan, and President of the Fashion Institute of Technology Dr. Joyce Brown. To enter the competition, please email your design to Hoylman@nysenate.gov or post it on Twitter with the #MakeAMaskNYC hashtag. Let’s give the judges pumpkin to talk about. Remember. the scariest trick-or-treaters this Halloween will be the ones without masks at all!”
