(Albany, NY) - Today, Senator David Carlucci’s bill to honor the late security guard, Sandra Wilson (S.8555a/A.10653A) was signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The legislation designates a portion of State Route 45 in the Village of Spring Valley, as the Sandra L. Wilson Memorial Highway.
Wilson was stabbed to death in February, while working security at the Finkelstein Memorial Library in Spring Valley. Police said 25-year-old Blanchard Glaudin attacked 52-year-old Wilson with a knife after she asked him to turn down his music.
Senator David Carlucci said, “Sandra Wilson was attacked for no reason. She was at the library simply doing her job. She was known to patrons for her warm smile and friendly demeanor. This roadway will serve as a reminder of her kindness and ensure her legacy is remembered in Spring Valley and the entire State of New York. I thank the Governor for signing this legislation into law, as it will mean a lot to her family.”
Wilson began working at the Finkelstein Memorial Library as a clerk in 2011 and worked her way up through the ranks, obtaining her security guard certification in 2018 and being promoted to full-time Security Aide in 2019.
Those who knew Wilson said she would be remembered for her friendliness, her smile, her kindness and her honesty. She is survived by her mother, Shirley Wilson, and her two sons and daughter.
There is no timeline yet on when the new roadway signage will be installed, but Senator Carlucci said he plans to have a dedication ceremony on State Route 45 with Wilson's family once the work is complete by the New York State Department of Transportation.
