Senator Fred Akshar continued the third year of his district-wide “Akshar's All-Stars” student recognition program by recognizing students at Seton Catholic Central, Broome-Tioga BOCES, Woodrow Wilson Elementary and Benjamin Franklin Elementary.
Each month, Senator Akshar recognizes local students selected by their school districts in the 52nd Senate District who have shown great leadership, compassion, school spirit or improvement amongst their peers.
For each student recognized as an “Akshar All-Star”, Senator Akshar presents them with a t-shirt, framed certificate and a challenge coin.
At Seton Catholic Central, Akshar recognized senior Bridget Martin for her dedication to both her school and her community. Whether it’s through organizing service projects, volunteering at the St. James Community Garden, or working as a tennis volunteer, Bridget’s been described by her school as a kind, selfless, and caring young lady who exemplifies what it means to be a “Saint”.
At Broome-Tioga BOCES, Akshar recognized senior Sierra Weeks for serving as a role model in making a positive difference both in the classroom and out in the community. In addition to volunteering as a peer mentor for her class mates at East Learning Center, Sierra assists elderly individuals in her community with landscaping service.
At Woodrow Wilson Elementary, Akshar recognized fourth grader Quinten Blake, who is described by his school district as a responsible, remarkable young man who always has a positive attitude, always shows up and always works hard. Gifted in making those around him feel welcome and accepted, Quinten is also a member of his student government and volunteers at a local nursing home.
At Benjamin Franklin Elementary School, Akshar recognized fourth grader Mina Saleh for not only working hard academically, but being helpful, kind and caring to both her teachers and to her fellow students. Mina has also shown talent in the arts, playing the viola in the school orchestra and singing in the school’s choir.
Senator Fred Akshar said, "It’s truly a unique experience to be able to shine a light on some of the amazing work and service that’s being done by young people in our community. Whether they’re spending their valuable time with younger students who need a friend or providing leadership to their fellow classmates, it’s important to recognize these bright stars and let their stories be told. In a time when the nation seems so divided, I’m happy to support such a great recognition program that shows the best in our young people.”
