Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) hosted a virtual town hall as part of his annual “Skoufis On Your Street” series. Dozens of residents from throughout the district attended the virtual meeting and discussed state-wide and local topics.
Every year, Skoufis has toured the district in a series of meet and greets to locally owned businesses in different towns and villages to give residents an opportunity to speak with him in their own neighborhood; this year, in an effort to meet the community in a safe and flexible setting, Skoufis decided to engage with constituents virtually via Zoom.
Senator Skoufis gave an introduction about legislative changes implemented in the past year, recent hearings that he co-chaired on the state’s response to the pandemic in nursing homes, hospitals, and the workforce, including issues with the Department of Labor. Skoufis discussed the impact of the pandemic on the state’s budget deficit and resources available to people. After Senator Skoufis’ opening remarks, the town hall opened up to a Q&A format.
“Although I missed hosting my annual town halls face-to-face at local businesses this year, I wanted to ensure that everyone was comfortable as possible attending our event,” said Senator Skoufis. “Being accessible to my constituents is a top priority of mine, which is why I have an open communication policy. It’s been an incredibly challenging few months for residents in our state and I am privileged to serve and fight for this community.”
Senator Skoufis continues to encourage residents to reach out to his office at 845-567-1270 or skoufis@nysenate.gov if they are having issues filing for unemployment or hearing back from the Department of Labor.
