Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) and his team volunteered last week with Newburgh Mutual Aid in an effort to supply meals to residents in need in Newburgh. The Newburgh Mutual Aid group was founded at the beginning of the pandemic to coordinate efforts in assisting the community during times of crisis. In coordination with local nonprofits, RECAP and LYNC, Newburgh Mutual Aid has delivered thousands of meals to residents in need.
“The women and men who make up Newburgh Mutual Aid have gone above and beyond over the past three months, feeding hundreds of local families every week,” said Senator Skoufis. “My team and I were happy to lend a hand as well as thank them for their efforts on behalf of our neighbors in need.”
Charlie Quinn, CEO of RECAP said, “RECAP is proud of the long relationship it has had with Senator Skoufis. As part of Newburgh Mutual Aid we were thrilled to welcome the senator and his staff on Friday to help prepare food boxes for delivery to our community. Senator Skoufis’ commitment to our community is demonstrated not just by words but his actions as well. We thank him and his staff for joining us and discussing the broader issues of food insecurity throughout our community. We look forward to working with him to address income inequality and anti-poverty initiatives over the next year.
