Local Roads Matter!
Senator Jim Tedisco
March 5, 2020
Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I-Glenville) yesterday joined with Assemblyman Robert Smullen, Glenville Town Supervisor Chris Koetzle and hundreds of local highway superintendents and workers to send a message to the Governor and legislative leaders that local roads matter!
Tedisco, Smullen and their colleagues are calling for a $65 million restoration of Extreme Winter Recovery funding and real funding parity for our Upstate roads, bridges and infrastructure.
"Our highway professionals are some of the unsung heroes in our local governments who are out there plowing on cold and snowy winter nights and paving in hot summer days to keep our roads safe," said Senator Jim Tedisco. "The integrity and safety of our above-ground and underground infrastructure matters for our economy and small businesses, our schools, healthcare and our homes. To keep New York’s economy moving, local roads and infrastructure truly matters!"
Senator Tedisco also noted that as they call for support for the CHIPS program for above ground infrastructure, we also need to invest in our underground safe water infrastructure. Tedisco is championing a companion program to CHIP called the Safe Water infrastructure Action Program — SWAP program. SWAP would provide annual funding to all municipalities to swap out old, damaged pipes and water mains to fight that lurking monster in our underground infrastructure and stop costly breaks before they happen.
