Griffo statement on U.S. Department of Homeland Security decision regarding New York travelers
February 6, 2020
New York State Senate Deputy Minority Leader Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, released the following statement today regarding the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s decision to bar New York residents from enrolling in Global Entry and other trusted-traveler programs. The Department of Homeland Security made the decision in response to New York’s passage of the Green Light Law last year.
Deputy Minority Leader Griffo’s statement is below:
“The recent decision by the Department of Homeland Security is unfortunate and yet another example of the negative consequences that have resulted from one-party and one-region rule in New York State. I recognize a need for immigration reforms. However, as I have said in the past, immigration is a longstanding federal issue that cannot be addressed state by state. Now, as the result of a downstate-driven policy, law-abiding New Yorkers are being penalized, punished and inconvenienced.”
Deputy Minority leader Griffo did not support the Green Light Law.
