Ritchie Bill Would Provide Tax Credit to Essential Workers
April 20, 2020
In an effort to support those on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she will introduce legislation to provide a temporary tax credit for essential retail employees who have remained on the job during the pandemic and helped to provide New Yorkers with the critical supplies and services they need during this challenging time.
“While most employees have been able to remain at home during this unprecedented pandemic, there are many retail workers who have remained on the job to provide us with the essential items and services we need—all the while, putting their own health at risk on a daily basis,” said Senator Ritchie.
“This bill is just a small way to show these dedicated workers we appreciate the sacrifices that they and their families are making.”
Examples of individuals who could benefit from the tax credit established through the measure include those who work in grocery stores, pharmacies, convenience stores, restaurants and bars providing takeout or delivery, truck drivers and delivery workers, among others.
