Harckham Expresses Gratitude on National Vietnam War Veterans Day

South Salem, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham expressed gratitude today for those who served, and for supportive family and community members as well, on National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

A group of Vietnam veterans were to have visited Harckham today at the New York State Capitol, where there were to be honored during a short ceremony. However, the travel restrictions and social distancing necessary to stop the spread of the coronavirus during the ongoing pandemic forced the cancellation of the event.

“The many Vietnam War veterans residing in the 40th Senate District have my everlasting gratitude and respect for answering the call to service, the sacrifices they made and the courage with which they fought,” said Harckham. “These men and women deserve every honor afforded to them on National Vietnam War Veterans Day, having put their country first at a time when it was not fashionable to do so. I would like to acknowledge the family members and friends that supported them during—and after—their service as well.

"While I am disappointed that I will not be offering my thanks in person to the group of Vietnam War veterans who were scheduled to be honored in Albany today, I want them to know this: they are true American heroes.”
