SENATOR BIAGGI CELEBRATES APPOINTMENT OF DR. BETTY ROSA AS NEW YORK STATE EDUCATION COMMISSIONER

BRONX, NY – This week, Dr. Betty Rosa was permanently appointed as Commissioner of the New York State Education Department and President of the University of the State of New York. Dr. Rosa is the first Latinx woman to serve in the position, and is a District 34 constituent.
Dr. Rosa has served as Interim Commissioner since August 2020.
State Senator Alessandra Biaggi (D-Bronx/Westchester) issued the following statement:
“I extend my deepest congratulations to District 34 community member, Dr. Betty Rosa, for her permanent appointment as Commissioner of the New York State Education Department and President of the University of the State of New York. From being a public school teacher to becoming the Chancellor of the Board of Regents, Dr. Rosa has a deep and wide-ranging understanding of the unique challenges New York public schools face, and has a proven record for delivering on the needs of our school communities. I wish Dr. Rosa continued success in this role, and look forward to working together to expand access to quality education and opportunities for students in District 34 and across New York State.”
