Tedisco: New Majority Bill Offers “Fake Repeal" of Cuomo’s “Emperor-like” Emergency Powers

Senator Jim Tedisco

March 3, 2021

“For months, my Senate Republican colleagues and I have been calling for the revocation of Governor Cuomo’s emergency powers to restore the legislature’s role as a separate and equal branch of government to bring checks and balance back to state government.  We have brought forth an amendment to the Senate Floor for that full revocation 19 times and have seen it voted down each day.”

“The new legislation that’s been introduced by the Senate and Assembly Majorities does not take away Governor Cuomo’s emperor-like emergency powers. What it does is make the Assembly Speaker and Senate Majority Leader members of King Cuomo’s Court.  The bill gives no voice for the people’s duly-elected representatives on the Governor’s mandates into people’s lives.”

“This measure is not about bringing balance to state government and reining in a governor who is among the most powerful in the nation and is now the subject of a criminal investigation by the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn into his cover-up of the deaths of 15,000 New Yorkers in nursing homes and a separate investigation by a special prosecutor appointed by the Attorney General into several allegations of sexual harassment.”

“This bill is just the latest example of the Majority playing cover for Cuomo.”

“Make no mistake, it’s fake repeal.”
