Senator Gallivan Announces State Funding to Improve Emergency Communications

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) is announcing $45-million in state grant funding awarded to counties across New York to enhance emergency communications. The funding will allow local governments to enhance public safety by expanding their ability to communicate, exchange data and streamline information sharing.  Among the counties receiving funding under the State Interoperable Communications Grant program are Erie, Livingston, Monroe and Wyoming. 

"Reliable communication is critical when police, fire and medical personnel are responding to emergencies,” Senator Gallivan said.  “As a former State Trooper and Sheriff of Erie County, I understand the importance of sharing life-saving information as fast as possible.  This funding will help ensure our communities and our first responders have the tools and training necessary to respond to emergencies and protect our residents.”

This year’s grants include $1,200,252 for Erie County, $612,806 for Livingston County, $1,401,795 for Monroe County and $422,761 for Wyoming County.

The Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services administer the Statewide Interoperable Communications Program.  A total of $472 million has been awarded to municipalities since December 2011.   

Counties can use the funding for a variety of functions, including new infrastructure, equipment and technology upgrades.
