Senator Gallivan Urges Eligible Residents to Take State Police Exam

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) says the New York State Police has initiated a new recruiting effort to find the best and most diverse pool of candidates to serve and protect state residents.  Senator Gallivan, a former Trooper and Sheriff of Erie County, is urging eligible individuals to sign up to take the exam, which will be held January 3 to April 30, 2022.

“Working in law enforcement is a rewarding career and there is no better organization than the New York State Police,” Senator Gallivan said.  “My father was a Trooper and encouraged my brother and me to become Troopers.  I encourage anyone interested in working for the State Police to do some research and sign up for the exam.”

Trooper qualifications and exam details are available at www.joinstatepolice.ny.gov.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens, at least 20 years of age by date of application, must not have reached their 30th birthday by the date of application, and have a high school graduate or equivalency diploma.

The State Police have adopted a new recruiting process to increase the pool of candidates and diversity.  Exams will be offered at 54 testing centers across the state and candidates will be able to choose a testing site, date and time that is most convenient for them.
