Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) joined family members of World War II veteran Edward Enser to formally dedicate a portion of state route 75 in the Town of North Collins as the Tec. 5 Edward Enser Memorial Highway.
Mr. Enser, who died in 1986, served in the US Army as a Technician 5th grade. Throughout his service, he received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Croix de Guerre with Palm Orders, Distinguished Unit Badge, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 8 Battle Stars, Army of Occupation Germany, Rhine, Danube Campaign Medals, WWII Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
"Mr. Enser served our country with honor and distinction and was truly a member of the Greatest Generation,” Senator Gallivan said. “Designating a portion of Route 75 in his name is one way to acknowledge his bravery and it will remind residents of the community of the service and sacrifice he and others in our military have given to our nation."
Members of Mr. Enser’s family, including his sons and daughter, and his grandson, Lt Col Kenneth Enser II, Commander, Force Support Squadron, 914th Air Reserves, attended the highway dedication ceremony held at the American Legion in North Collins.
“On behalf of my family, I would like to thank Senator Gallivan and Assemblyman DiPietro for naming this section of Sission Highway to honor my late father,” said Kenneth Enser. “My late wife, Chris, was determined that his military service be recognized for all to see. Dad would be the first to say the real heroes are those who never made it back home, protecting the freedom that we have.”
The portion of Route 75 to be renamed, stretches from Langford Rd. South to Shirley Rd. in the Town of North Collins. Senator Gallivan sponsored the legislation to dedicate the highway in recognition of Mr. Enser in the State Senate and Assemblymember David DiPietro sponsored it in the State Assembly. The measure was signed into law earlier this year.
