Harckham Returns as Chair of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Committee for 2021-2022 Term
January 6, 2021
Albany, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham announced today that he is returning as Chair of the Senate Committee on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse for the 2021-2022 legislative term. He will also return as a member of the Committees on Environment Conservation and Energy and Telecommunications while also serving three other Senate Committees: Finance, Women’s Issues and Insurance.
New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins conferred the committee assignments prior to the start of the Senate session, which officially begins on January 6.
“I am honored to have been chosen by Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins to serve another term as chair of the Senate Committee on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse in order to continue my work in this important area,” said Harckham. “The state budget is going to pose a real challenge to us, and serving on the Finance committee will allow me to delve into a new area of oversight with significant ramifications. But I am appreciative of all of my other committee assignments, and I look forward to the work I will accomplish with my Senate colleagues, organizational partners and residents around the state.”
In the 2019-2020 term, his first in the Senate, Harckham also was co-chair of the Joint Senate Task Force on Opioids, Addiction and Overdose Prevention.
