Statement from Senator Stec concerning legislative pay raises

 “A recent Siena poll showed that majority of New Yorkers believe our state is heading in the wrong direction. We face rising inflation, rising interest rates and a stagnant economy. Public safety still needs to be substantively addressed. 

            “Instead of giving our taxpayers the financial relief and public safety reforms they’re calling for, Senate and Assembly Democrats have instead chosen to come back during the holidays and gift themselves a massive salary increase. At a time when so many are struggling to make ends meet, this is absolutely unacceptable. 

            “Our residents deserve honest, accountable and proactive leadership that acts on the issues that matter most. By putting their own paycheck ahead of the interests of our communities, Senate and Assembly Democrats are doing a gross disservice to all New Yorkers. I’ll be voting against this pay raise and I urge my fellow lawmakers to do the same.”
