Stec Calls for Plan to End U.S.-Canada Border Restrictions

March 21^st marks two years since the first restrictions between the U.S. and Canada, and Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) is calling for the governments of both to provide a plan for the restoration of normal border activities. Despite the easing of most COVID-related restrictions, the two nations have not announced any strategy toward resuming regular travel and economic activities.  

“The sustained closure and restrictions on the U.S-Canada border has had a devastating impact on the economies of both nations,” said Senator Stec. “With spring and summer rapidly approaching, we need to have a plan to reopen the border for the resumption of normal activities. 

“An easy first step would be for the Canadian government to resume its 72-hour exemption from testing and move toward the U.S. policy of admission with proof-of-vaccination,” he added. “Going forward, officials from both the U.S. and Canada must provide a clear timetable to fully reopen the border between the two nations. This cannot wait any longer.”
