Stec Joins Colleagues in Calling for Public to Reject Plan to Hike Energy Costs

Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury)  and his Senate Republican colleagues today urged residents to submit official public comment on the Climate Action Council’s (CAC) draft Scoping Plan by the April 30 deadline. In this plan are proposals to eliminate gas-powered automobiles and reliable, affordable sources of energy such as natural gas, propane and heating oil hookups and services. 

The North Country, where residents face long commutes and harsh winters, would be severely impacted by the CAC suggestions and end up paying more for less efficient energy sources. At a time of rising energy costs and inflation, our residents simply can’t afford new taxes on their home heating or gas, much less the cost of replacing their current vehicles or heating systems with more expensive, less efficient ones. 

“The cost of home heating and gas for our cars continues to skyrocket and the Senate Democrats’ ‘green initiatives’ will only make this crisis worse,” said Stec. “Between record inflation and a global energy crisis, we need to do more to help New Yorkers get through this cold, expensive winter. It’s time to shelf these unrealistic, unaffordable strategies and instead provide the sorely needed relief on gas and energy taxes that our residents deserve. 

“I strongly urge our residents to submit their input to the Climate Action Council and let it know that we simply can’t afford these costly, inefficient plans,” he added.
