Harckham Delivers $100K State Grant for New EMS Building in Patterson
February 27, 2022
Patterson, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham announced today that he has secured $100,000 in state grant funding for the Town of Patterson to construct a new building that will serve as headquarters for its Emergency Medical Service (EMS). The building will be added to the municipal complex on the lot that already includes the Patterson Town Hall and Patterson Justice Court buildings.
“Our first responders require updated facilities and equipment to be able to safeguard our residents with optimal care,” said Harckham. “I am pleased to be able to help assist Patterson in its effort to construct a new EMS building—the town’s ambulance and EMS operation include investments in state-of-the-art equipment that need proper sheltering.”
The new EMS building, which will be approximately 2,000 square-feet in area, will include garage space for the ambulances and living and sleeping quarters for the emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Currently, Patterson’s EMS is housed in a small, wood-frame structure and detached garage on the same Leibell Place property off Route 311 with the town hall and town court. The town’s ambulances do not fit into the garage and are parked outside when not on call.
"It is vitally important that the Town has a secure and usable building to house the ambulance and emergency equipment for its EMS operation,” said Richard Williams, Sr., supervisor of the Town of Patterson. “With this grant funding from the state, we will be able to begin construction of a new facility this year while also taking some of the cost burden off of our taxpayers. I appreciate the Senator’s continued support of this project.”
The awarded grant funding was secured within the State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM), which is among the grant programs administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) to support community and economic development.
