ONEONTA, 06/23/22 -- State Senator Peter Oberacker (R/C – Schenevus) today commented on the United States Supreme Court ruling that New York’s concealed carry gun licensing regulations are in violation of the Second Amendment:
“The U.S Supreme Court decision rejecting New York’s unconstitutional concealed carry law is a victory for law-abiding gun owners.
“Our governor and Democrat leaders are already planning their next ploy to circumvent the court decision and further restrict your Second Amendment rights. I will continue to stand up against any and all policies that fail to make us safer and only look to take away our freedoms.
“As the governor herself stated, this law has been in place since the early 1900’s. Clearly, it has done nothing to stop crime – it has only blocked responsible, law-abiding gun owners from exercising their constitutionally protected rights.
“Stopping criminals, bolstering our state’s mental health system, and backing our law enforcement officials are the steps we need to take to truly improve public safety. It is time to put the spotlight on the real issues and end pro-crime policies emanating from Albany.”
