Ross was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden to become the United States Attorney for the Western District of New York on July 26, 2021, and was unanimously confirmed by the Senate on Sept. 30, 2021. On Oct. 11, 2021, she officially became the first Black woman to hold the position in the Western District of New York. As the top law enforcement official in the District, she is responsible for overseeing the prosecution of any federal criminal case brought within the 17 counties of Western New York.
On March 30, 2022, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland announced the appointment of Ross to serve on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys (AGAC). In addition, on June 16, 2022, she was selected as the Chairperson for the AGAC subcommittee on Law Enforcement Coordination, Victim Assistance and Community Relations. In this role, Ross will lead a subcommittee that will advise Attorney General Garland on matters involving law enforcement, victim assistance and community relations.
Ross has served as Director of Investigations, Legal Division, with the National Science Foundation’s Office of Inspector General since 2018. A Buffalo native, she has also spent 16 years as an adjunct professor at The State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law, where she received her J.D., cum laude, in 1992.
Senator Sean Ryan said, “Trini’s recent confirmation as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York was a historic event, but she has exhibited admirable character and dedication to the rule of law for decades. For all of her accomplishments and the barriers she has broken, it is my privilege to honor Trini as a New York State Senate Woman of Distinction.”
