December 14, 2023
(Brooklyn, NY) Senator Iwen Chu attended the “Communities in Action: Building a Better New York” forum hosted at the White House on Thursday, December 14, 2023. The invitation-only event invited elected representatives, community leaders, and senior Biden Administration officials to discuss and showcase local initiatives aimed at creating opportunities to improve the lives of New Yorkers.
Senator Chu participated in discussions on issues that matter most to New Yorkers including gun violence, rising healthcare costs, outdated lead pipe infrastructure, and more. She raised the need to address the migrant crisis, SNAP fraud cases, and assistance for flood victims. The Biden-Harris administration highlighted the investments in New York State that are products of the Inflation Reduction Act.
“A strategic and robust partnership between the federal government and New York State is necessary in the fight for a better New York. Families and working communities across the State are feeling the burden of rising cost of living and healthcare costs while dealing with the brunt of outdated infrastructure. I thank the Biden-Harris administration for the invitation to discuss the real-life experiences of my constituents and the urgent need for government action,” said NYS Senator Iwen Chu. “The need for federal government to step up is real. Our communities cannot afford budget cuts to education, resiliency efforts, public safety, sanitation, and more. I look forward to continued conversation and collaboration on the needs of southern Brooklyn communities.”
Senator Iwen Chu is the first Asian American woman elected to the New York State Senate and represents the neighborhoods of Sunset Park, Bensonhurst, Kensington, Dyker Heights, Bath Beach, and Bay Ridge.
