SENATOR JEREMY COONEY APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF SENATE STANDING COMMITTEE ON PROCUREMENT AND CONTRACTS

(ALBANY, NY) - Yesterday, NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins named Senator Jeremy Cooney (D-Rochester) as the new chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Procurement and Contracts.

The Procurement and Contracts Committee focuses on legislation related to state purchasing from third party contractors, including Minority and Women-Owned Businesses (MWBE). Senator Cooney seeks to increase agency spending transparency and to provide more incentives to procure services from businesses located within New York State.

In addition to his committee leadership, Senator Cooney will serve as a member of the following Senate standing committees:

  • Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business
  • Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks & Recreation
  • Ethics & Internal Governance
  • Finance
  • Insurance
  • Transportation

During the previous legislative session, Senator Cooney served as chairman for the Cities 2 Standing Committee, where he led the successful ReGener8 Tour of upstate cities and held a formal legislative hearing on the state of small and mid-sized cities across New York State.

 Senator Jeremy Cooney:

I am proud to bring a pro NYS business voice as the new Chairman of the Senate’s Procurement & Contracts Committee. I want to help New York businesses, which pay taxes to New York and hire locally, have the opportunity to earn more state contracts. When we expand economic opportunities for workers, owners and communities—everyone wins. I am grateful to Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for her confidence in me and I am eager to get back to work as a member of the Senate Majority.”
