CANASTOTA - New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C-Rome, recently presented a New York State Senate Resolution commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Loaves & Fishes Hospitality Center to Anita Thibado, the center's program director.
The center, located at 144 Center St. in Canastota, was founded in 1988 by Jessica Moore-Collins to help the community following the closures of large businesses and factories in the area, including General Electric and Carrier. Since its opening, staff and volunteers at the center have distributed thousands of meals to those in need with support from local businesses and community organizations.
“It was a pleasure to meet with Anita and to learn more about everything that the Loaves & Fishes Hospitality Center does for the residents and families of Canastota,” Sen. Griffo said. “The Loaves & Fishes Hospitality Center has a long and distinguished history of helping those in need. All those involved with this organization for the last 35 years are to be commended for their commitment to improving their community.”
As a former mayor, Sen. Griffo recognizes the important role that organizations like the center play in communities across the state.
“We are fortunate to live in an area that is always so willing to give back and help others,” Sen. Griffo said. “I am thankful for all the organizations, groups and individuals who unselfishly give and serve others throughout the region, and I appreciate the good work that they do every day.”
