Brooklyn, N.Y– State Senator Kevin Parker teamed up with City University of New York (CUNY) for their annual collaboration in support of the myriad of immigrants in the city who are in need of adjusting their immigration status. Other colleagues in government also partnered in the free citizenship application assistance event at Brooklyn College called “CUNY Citizen NOW.” They included Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte and Councilwoman Farah Louis. In the daylong event, attendees were provided with confidential one-on-one consultations with highly skilled immigration attorneys and paralegals who assessed their immigration needs and in some cases assisted in completing their citizen application.
“New York State has been the veritable capital of migration into our nation and immigrants have fueled the American experience,” said Senator Parker. “However, the Federal Government has failed to provide a clear path to citizenship,” he added. “CUNY’s Citizenship NOW program has done an amazing job of standing in the gap by providing free legal assistance and helping fill out the myriad of forms in this arcane process. I am proud to be a sponsor of this important service for my community. Our next task is to increase State funding for this invaluable community benefit.
4.42 million Immigrants currently live in the state of New York.
