(SENATE DISTRICT 52) Today, Senator Lea Webb (SD52) announced $126,000 in state funds that were secured in the 2023-2024 NYS Budget to support the Christmas Tree Farmers’ Association of New York (CTFANY). Founded in 1953, the mission of the Christmas Tree Farmers’ Association of New York is to empower farmers in the development of the real Christmas tree industry. CTFANY provides information and opportunities for its members that include national visibility and stature, quality production, preservation, education, pride in our products and customer satisfaction, as well as education to the public while helping protect the environment.
Said Senator Lea Webb, “For families across the Southern Tier, visiting a local Christmas Tree farm to choose the perfect holiday tree is a time-honored tradition. Our local Christmas tree farmers play an important role in New York’s agricultural industry, filling homes with light and joy, and contributing to this special time of year. I am pleased that we were able to allocate state funds in the 2023-2024 NYS Budget to support the Christmas Tree Farmers’ Association of New York and the important work they do to support our local tree farmers and grow our economy.”
According to the Christmas Tree Farmers Association of New York, New York State is home to 875 tree farms. With tree farms sprawling across almost 19,000 acres, the state ranks #4 in the country in acres dedicated to growing Christmas trees. By selecting a tree from any one of these local farms, New Yorkers and their families can support this important agricultural sector, which has a $13.8 million economic impact (Department of Ag and Markets).
