Rob Rolison Sworn in as State Senator in Poughkeepsie
January 17, 2023
POUGHKEEPSIE -- Senator Rob Rolison (R-Poughkeepsie, Newburgh) today took the oath of office in a local swearing-in ceremony hosted at Revel 32 in the City of Poughkeepsie. The former twice-elected mayor, who ended his tenure earlier this week, was accompanied by his wife Lori, son Chris, and their family. Poughkeepsie School Board President Tom O'Neill, a former city judge, administered the oath of office. Rolison, 64, a resident of the city for more than 30 years, was officially sworn in during a ceremony in the Capitol on January 4, will serve the newly created 39th District that partly overlaps with one previously represented by his father, Senator Jay P. Rolison, Jr., who served in the state legislature's upper chamber from 1967 to 1990.
"Serving the people of Poughkeepsie as their mayor has been an honor. This is not the end but a beginning," said Rolison. "As your state Senator I intend to serve all residents of the 39th District, regardless of label. This isn't about politics; it's about delivering results, just as we did in Poughkeepsie when our administration reduced a deficit by more than $10 million while continuing to distribute the essential services residents needed. We've got a lot to do, but I am confident knowing that a united New York working together has changed our nation for the better and can do so again."
Senator Rolison joins a freshman class of seven other Republicans in the 63-member body. On January 3 he was named ranking member on two committees: Children and Families as well as Cities II, which focuses on urban municipalities outside New York City. He has described fighting inflation and public safety as two of his top priorities in 2023.
Rob Rolison (R-39th District) was elected to the New York State Senate in November 2022 and his serving his first term. He serves as ranking member on two committees: Cities II and Children and Families. The 39th Senate District includes parts of Dutchess, Putnam, and Orange counties.
