ALBANY, N.Y. — Embarking on his first term, Senator Steve Rhoads will serve as the Ranking Member on the Ethics & Internal Governance, and Local Government Committees. Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt also tapped Rhoads to sit on the Health, Judiciary, Labor, and Cities 1 Committees.
Senator Rhoads has proven himself as a strong voice for his constituents while being a prominent local leader during his time in the Nassau County Legislature. He has brought together town, county, federal, and state officials from both sides of the political aisle to deliver meaningful results for his constituents. As a successful attorney in private practice and former Deputy Bureau Chief in the Office of the Nassau County Attorney, Senator Rhoads has an extensive background in law, ethics, and understands the governing and legislative process.
Senator Rhoads is truly the right representative to be our Ranking Republican Member on the Senate Ethics & Internal Governance, and Local Government Committees. What’s more, his past experience as a Firefighter and solutions-oriented pubic servant will serve him well as a vocal member of the Health, Judiciary, Labor, and Cities 1 committees.
Senator Rhoads’ committee assignments will allow him to tackle some of his top priorities, including expanding the availability of mental health resources, fighting for a fair judiciary, combatting sky-high inflation, prioritizing local government control in legislative initiates, supporting law enforcement, and keeping all New Yorkers safe.
“Steve Rhoads has a record of demonstrating true accountability in local government. As County Legislator, he created the position of Independent Inspector General to increase transparency and restore trust in local government. He is absolutely the right candidate to be the Ranking Member on the Ethics and Internal Governance and Local Government committees. I am confident Senator Rhoads will continue to work hard for the people of his district and all New Yorkers, as our conference continues to fight for a safer, stronger, and more affordable state,” said Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt.
“I am excited to get to work for the people of Senate District 5 and I am truly grateful for Leader Ortt’s trust in me to be a strong voice on these committees for our conference,” added Rhoads.
