Senator Iwen Chu Celebrates Unveiling of FDNY EMS Station 40 Mural and Pays Tributes to Local Asian Community

(Brooklyn, NY) On August 8, Senator Iwen Chu joined FDNY EMS Station 40 and fellow elected officials to celebrate the unveiling of a new mural, depicting two beautiful dragons, symbolizing strength, good luck, and prosperity in Asian culture. 

Created by artist Linda Serrone, the mural features dragons named "Jade" and "Amethyst” and serves as a tribute to the local prominent Asian community and the strong bond with the station. They also picked August 8 to host the official unveiling because the number 8 means good luck in Asian culture. 

Senator Chu, along with State Senator Andrew Gounardes and Council Members Alexa Avilés and Justin Brannan, highlighted the mural's reflection of Sunset Park’s spirit and energy, and the comfort it brings to first responders when they come back from duties.

“FDNY EMS plays a crucial role in our community, their dedication works to save lives and keep people safe, so those who needed medical attention can go home to their loved ones,” says Senator Chu. “However, they don’t get the recognition they deserve. As a member of the Civil Service and Pensions Committee, I will continue to fight for their pay parity and build a stronger path for their career advancement.”

Senator Chu also toured the station and the paramedic vehicle with EMS members and learned their job duties.
