Senator Lea Webb Urges High School Seniors to Take Advantage of Free Application Weeks for SUNY Campuses

SUNY Free Applications Week
Participating Students Can Save Up to $250 in Application Fees During College Application Month

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – As New York State College Application Month is in full swing, Senator Lea Webb, a proud SUNY alumna and a member of the New York State Senate’s Committee on Higher Education, is urging high school seniors to take advantage of SUNY's Free Application Weeks, which run from October 21 through November 3. During this two-week period, students applying to SUNY’s 64 campuses can have the fees for up to five applications waived, saving them up to $250.

The Free Application initiative is designed to reduce financial barriers for students across New York State, particularly those from low-income families, first-generation college students, and others who may face economic obstacles to applying for college. With SUNY tuition set at $7,070 per year, this program is part of a broader effort to ensure higher education remains accessible and affordable for all.

Students May Go to ApplySUNY or Common App and Apply to Up to Five Campuses Through November 3 at No Cost

"As a proud SUNY alumna and a former educator at SUNY, I am thrilled that New York State is expanding access to our incredible public institutions," said Senator Lea Webb. "Waiving application fees opens the doors for students to continue their educational journey, helping us reverse declining enrollment and create pathways to success. I remain committed to making higher education more affordable and expanding opportunities for all students through initiatives like Free Application Weeks."

Students applying through ApplySUNY will see the first five campuses in their application process automatically waived, while those using the Common App will need to select "yes" for the fee waiver at each SUNY school they apply to, up to five. Additionally, students already benefiting from existing SUNY fee waiver programs, including those from low-income households, foster care, military-connected families, or those attending high schools with high numbers of free and reduced lunch recipients, can continue to apply for ongoing fee waivers.
