Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) says the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) is seeking applicants to fill various employment opportunities within the agency. The department is facing staffing shortages statewide due to attrition, particularly in the Correction Officer position.
Like many correctional and law enforcement agencies across the country, DOCCS is experiencing difficulties recruiting staff, which has had a negative impact on operations and the use of mandatory overtime.
“Working for the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision is a challenging and rewarding career,” Senator Gallivan said. “Staff members provide vital services and supervision to incarcerated individuals, and ensure security for residents, visitors, and the community. The department also provides opportunity for professional growth and advancement.”
Individuals interested in careers in law enforcement, health services, civil litigation, education, food services, trades and other areas are encouraged to apply. Employment information is available online at: https://doccs.ny.gov/employment-opportunities
The starting salary for Correction Officer Trainee has recently been increased to $53,223 with advancement to $56,158 upon completion of the probationary period. Other employment benefits include comprehensive health insurance, dental and vision care, and retirement benefits.
