Senator Simcha Felder Hosts Fair Fares Event

Brooklyn, NY – Senator Simcha Felder will host an upcoming Fair Fares event with the NYC Department of Social Services (NYC DSS) they announced today. On Wednesday, March 20th from 10 AM to 3 PM at Premium Health Center, located at 4510 16th Avenue in Boro Park, attendees will have the opportunity to determine eligibility and apply for half-fare MetroCards with assistance from representatives of NYC DSS.

"Transportation is crucial for commuting to work, school and doctors’ appointments. New Yorkers struggling to afford public transportation are forced to choose between vital necessities. The Fair Fares Program can help people manage these crucial components of life without taking food off the table, and that’s a very good thing," said Senator Felder. "I am happy to partner with NYC DSS to bring this essential resource to our community and I encourage you to schedule an appointment with my office by phone at 718-253-2015 or email felder@nysenate.gov.”

The Fair Fares Program helps low-income New Yorkers between the ages of 18 – 64 to afford NYC transit more easily by providing 50% discounted MetroCards to eligible individuals. Pay-per-Ride, weekly unlimited, and monthly unlimited options are available. Fair Fares can also provide 50% off Access-A-Ride paratransit trips. Seniors aged 65 and over qualify for half-fare MetroCards under a separate program and can apply directly with the MTA or at one of Senator Felder’s MetroBus events scheduled throughout the year.

Participants can expect professional NYC DSS staff to guide them through the application process with on-the-spot submission. Applicants will have up to two weeks to submit any missing documents directly to the online portal. A Fair Fares MetroCard should arrive by mail within three weeks of an application being approved.

Documentation per working household member can include:

• Pay Stubs for the last 4 weeks or Letter of Employment
• Current Rent Receipts
• Photo ID/Social Security Card/Birth Certificate

• Social Security Retirement/Disability/SSI Award Letter
• Pension Income Documentation
• Proof of Residency (Lease, Electric or Gas Utility Bill)
