Sen. Gounardes Responds to Gov. Hochul’s State of the State Address

New York State Senator Andrew Gounardes issued the following statement today in response to Governor Kathy Hochul’s State of the State address:

“The most important thing we can do right now to tackle the affordability crisis is to help New York families make ends meet. I'm glad the Governor is taking the needs of working families seriously and proposing ways to put extra money in their pockets. Her birth allowance proposal mirrors my own Healthy Birth Grant proposal, which is a proven way to slash child poverty, improve public health and grow the middle class. And while her proposal to expand the child tax credit is a good start, we need to go further to meet this moment. My Working Families Tax Credit would give families up to $1,600 per child while closing loopholes and pinning the credit to inflation. It’s the best bang for our buck and the best way to support working-class and middle-class families. These families are the backbone of New York; now it’s time to prove New York has their backs.”
