Griffo swearing in ceremony
New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C-Rome, Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon, D-Marcy, and Assemblyman Brian Miller, R-C-New Hartford, were sworn into office today in front of students, faculty and staff at Whitesboro High School in Marcy.

U.S. District Court Judge Anthony Brindisi administered the oath of office to the two state legislators. After they were sworn in, the legislators spoke to the students about their role in government.

In November, Sen. Griffo was reelected to the state Senate, where he represents Oneida, Madison and parts of Chenango and Herkimer counties in the 53rd Senate District.

Assemblywoman Buttenschon was reelected to represent the 119th Assembly District, which includes Utica, Rome, and surrounding Oneida County communities.

Assemblyman Miller was reelected to the Assembly and represents parts of Oneida, Madison, Herkimer and Otsego counties in the 122nd Assembly District.

“Civic engagement is an important value that should be instilled at a young age, which is why I have been pleased to hold swearing in ceremonies at local schools in my district during my time in the Senate,” Sen. Griffo said. “Events like this allow students to see how the process works and provide them with the opportunity to interact directly with their representatives. I thank Whitesboro High School and the Whitesboro School District for opening their doors to us for today’s ceremony.”

“As a former educator, I recognize the importance of inspiring civic engagement and fostering a sense of responsibility in our youth,” Assemblywoman Buttenschon said. “As a proud Whitesboro graduate, this was a particularly meaningful location for this ceremony. Taking the oath of office in a school setting, surrounded by students who represent the bright future of our community and state, is truly special. I want to thank Whitesboro High School for providing this wonderful opportunity to connect with students and share the significance of public service.”

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to take the oath of office here at Whitesboro High School,” Assemblyman Miller said. “It’s inspiring to stand before students and discuss the importance of government and public service. I am committed to fostering an understanding of the legislative process and encouraging students to embrace their role in civic engagement.”
