Say NO to Higher Housing Costs!

SEN. Joseph A. Griffo

Stop mandate

New York’s housing affordability crisis is real. But Governor Hochul and Albany policymakers are pushing a proposal that will make homeownership even more out of reach.

The state’s Fire Prevention and Building Code Council is considering a new rule to mandate fire sprinkler systems in all new single-family homes—a move that could add $20,000–$30,000 to construction costs.

Homebuyers in New York already have the option to include sprinklers in their homes. But the truth is, most people choose not to, even after reviewing their benefits and costs.

This mandate is unnecessary, expensive, and removes consumer choice.

Let’s stop this ill-conceived proposal before it becomes law. Sign the petition and send a clear message to Albany: No to unfunded mandates!
