Join Me in Fighting for Affordable, Reliable Energy

SEN. Robert G. Ortt

affordable energy

Albany’s reckless energy policies are endangering New York families and businesses, and I hear every day from people struggling with skyrocketing energy costs. Governor Kathy Hochul and her allies are pursuing an agenda that makes energy unaffordable, unreliable, and unsafe—and it’s time to say enough.

With the New York State Energy Board reviewing the state Energy Plan, we have a critical opportunity to demand change before it’s too late. I’m committed to fighting for policies that protect hard working New Yorkers, and I need your help.

Here’s what the Senate Republican Conference is fighting for:

  • An all-of-the-above energy approach: Renewable energy, nuclear power, and clean-burning fossil fuels must all play a role in providing affordable and reliable energy for every New Yorker.
  • Cost transparency and accountability: You deserve to know exactly how much Albany’s policies, especially the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), will cost before more mandates are forced on you.
  • Grid reliability: Our state must guarantee a stable energy supply during peak demand, particularly during extreme weather events that threaten lives and safety.
  • Preserving consumer choice: You should have the freedom to decide how you heat your home, cook your food, and drive your vehicle—not Albany bureaucrats.
  • A responsible transition: The state’s rush to renewable energy without a solid plan or infrastructure is reckless and harmful to families and businesses.

The Facts:

  • The CLCPA could cost New Yorkers between $280 billion and $340 billion, potentially raising utility bills by as much as 64%.
  • Nearly 70% of New York’s power comes from traditional energy sources, yet Albany is shutting them down faster than renewables can replace them.
  • The New York Independent System Operator warns of potential blackouts as early as next summer.
  • Despite alarming costs and risks, Governor Hochul has refused to conduct the cost-benefit analysis required by the CLCPA.

Families shouldn’t have to choose between heating their homes and putting food on the table. This lack of transparency and accountability is unacceptable.

I’m calling on Governor Hochul to pause the CLCPA now.
We need a full cost-benefit analysis of the state’s energy mandates, and we need policies that focus on affordability, reliability, and public safety—not political agendas.

I refuse to let Albany treat hard working New Yorkers like guinea pigs. You deserve leaders who put your needs first, and I’m fighting to make sure your voice is heard.
