About Former Senator Thomas D. Croci's
Former Islip Town Supervisor, Tom Croci, graduated from Connetquot High School and attended James Madison University, earning a B.S. in Political Science. During summer breaks in college, Tom was a Park Attendant and Lifeguard for the Town of Islip. After graduating The New York Law School and completing a legal internship with The New York County District Attorney’s Office, Office of Special Narcotics, and passing the New York Bar, he was accepted to Navy Officer Candidate School, Pensacola, Florida. After receiving his commission, Tom spent over 8 years on active duty, earning the rank of Lieutenant Commander; and later the rank of Commander in 2013.
His active duty service tours include Intelligence Officer to SEA CONTROL SQUADRON TWO TWO flying strike missions in S-3B aircraft from the USS HARRY S TRUMAN in support of Operation Southern Watch, Iraq. He also served as the Terrorism Analysis Cell Team Lead at the Office of Naval Intelligence, where he tracked terrorist threats to the homeland. Senator Croci also saw active duty as a tactical intelligence officer when he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2004-05 leading a small team of Marines supporting Joint Operations.
Commander Croci culminated his active duty service as Senior Duty Officer in the White House Situation Room, National Security Council (2005-2007), Executive Office of the President where he directly supported the President and National Security Advisor during countless homeland and international crises. Upon transitioning from active duty in 2007, Tom was appointed to the Homeland Security Council Staff by President Bush, where he served until the end of the administration as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Homeland Security Council. He was requested to remain on the Presidential Transition Team by President Obama’s administration. Shortly after the 2009 Presidential Inauguration, LCDR Croci was mobilized to active duty from the White House Staff where he was trained and deployed as an Intelligence Officer with a Navy SEAL team supporting Operation Enduring Freedom- Afghanistan. Croci was mobilized again to active duty in 2013 as a Commander with the U.S. Navy Reserves and returned home to Long Island in July 2014.
Senator Croci serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Military and Veterans Affairs and the Senate’s Joint Task Force on Counterterrorism and Public Protection. Croci also serves as a member of the following NYS Senate Committees and Task Forces: Civil Service and Pensions, Codes, Education, Energy and Telecommunications, Senate Committee on Ethics and Internal Governance, Higher Education, Infrastructure and Capitol Investment, Judiciary, Technology and Innovation, Transportation, the Joint Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction and, the Task Force on Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases.
Senator Croci and his family have long been supporters of charitable causes including, The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence and Derek Jeter’s Turn Two Foundation to name a few. Tom serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Tom & Jo-Ann Croci Foundation in memory of Tom’s mother and father who died after battling cancer. The Tom & Jo-Ann Croci Foundation provides educational scholarships and grants to support youth.
