Where are they now?: Peter Brodie -- 1990 Session Assistant
1. When did you participate in the Undergraduate Session Assistants Program or Senate Fellowship?
Session Assistant Program – 1990
2. Which Senate office were you placed in during your internship?
Senator Ronald B. Stafford (R-46), Deputy Majority Leader for Legislative Operations
3. Briefly describe your responsibilities/day-to-day activities in your internship office placement.
During my placement I was responsible for researching and monitoring health related issues and legislation. I summarized Health Committee meetings and any related meetings that I attended for informational purposes.
Additionally, I staffed Senator Stafford in the Chamber and was responsible for providing anything he required while in the chamber.
4. Where are you working now? Briefly describe your responsibilities/day-to-day activities in your current place of employment.
Currently, it is, indeed, a pleasure to work as a Constituent Services Coordinator for NYS Senator George A. Amedore, Jr. (R-46) in the Montgomery County Satellite Office. I respond to constituent and municipal inquiries, monitor local newspapers for related issues, interact with civic and organizational issues to maintain a strong local relationship for the Senator, and any other assignments as requested by the Senator or the Albany Office staff.
5. What did you learn from participating in the New York State Senate internship programs that you have been able to carry over to your new position?
The most important skill and talent I honed during my NYS Senate Session Assistantship was the art of fine tuned, focused, direct communication. Good communication skills are an ideal start for success in any position; however, excellent communication skills developed over time and experience have helped me improve my ability to relate with constituents and transmit appropriate concerns to others in positions of responsibility.
