Health Disparities: The Need for Cultural and Linguistic Competence for Quality Health Care
- Health
The Education Fund of Family Planning Advocates Diverse Communities Health Initiative, Senator Serrano and Assemblyman Darryl C. Towns will present this workshop to raise awareness of the challenges that many communities face when it comes to accessing health care. Language barriers, financial obstacles, lack of insurance, immigration status, sexual orientation and cultural differences are among a host of factors that make access to care a daunting process.
This workshop will emphasize the need for cultural competence trainings for health care providers; and participants will learn about the dynamics of cultural differences that hinder access to health care services during encounters with diverse populations.
