"The Interrupters" Free Movie Viewing
The Yonkers Family YMCA SNUG/Cure Violence program will be hosting a free viewing of the movie, “The Interrupters,” on August 6, 2015 at the Yonkers Riverfront Library at 4:00 p.m. Immediately following, we will have some critical conversations about violence in our community of Yonkers. Please plan to join us and invite your constituents to be there as well.
“The Interrupters” tells the moving and surprising stories of three Violence Interrupters who try to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they once employed. Shot over the course of a year, “The Interrupters” captures a period in Chicago when it became a national symbol for the violence in our cities.
YMCA Project SNUG is founded on the same model, also known as “Cure Violence,” a nationally recognized model program for violence reduction. This model has been in operation in the City of Yonkers for 5½ years and has been an effective part of the violence reduction strategy of the City of Yonkers.
