Sanitation to collect harmful household products at Staten Island disposal event
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- If you're unsure of how to properly dispose of potentially dangerous household products, let the city Sanitation Department take them off of your hands.
The agency will hold a SAFE Disposal Event -- standing for solvents, automotive, flammables, electronics -- on April 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Parking Lot F, near the main entrance of the Staten Island Mall in New Springville.
Only items considered New York City residential waste will be accepted, including auto fluids, batteries, electronics, glues, medication and paint products, and items with labels like danger, warning or caution.
The "DANGER" label represents the highest hazard level.
Homeowners can also bring other items they believe may be harmful.
Attendees may not unload their vehicles outside of the event area.
Materials collected will be recycled, blended for fuel, or sent to licensed hazardous waste treatment facilities for safe disposal.
