MTA Staten Island Railway (SIR) to rehabilitate Armstrong Avenue Bridge May 11-13, 2012
- MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority)
Please be advised that MTA Staten Island Railway (SIR) will be rehabilitating the Armstrong Avenue Bridge during the weekend of May 11-13, 2012.
The rehabilitation of the Armstrong Avenue Bridge includes the repair and painting of steel members, abutment walls, waterproofing of the bridge deck including removal and replacement of tracks. MTA NYCT/SIR is undertaking the rehabilitation of the bridge as part of a $21M project to rehabilitate eight bridges along SIR.
In order to maintain safe work conditions as well as rail service, it is necessary to perform certain track work during off-peak periods during the weekend and overnight hours. Weekend work will consist mainly of the removal and replacement of track.
Work will commence Friday night at 9:00 p.m. and end Sunday evening. Work will take place on the St. George-bound side.
The rehabilitation work will require partial street closure at the bridge as mandated by NYCDOT, use of heavy equipment and will generate construction noise. The work area will be lighted using Light Towers at both the street and track levels.
For further information regarding this project, please call MTA Information at 511 or on the web at www.511NY.org. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
