Saxophonist Michael Blake
Michael Blake, saxophonist, composer and arranger has established a commanding presence in the jazz idiom. His work gracefully erases the borders between fields of music and his most recent release, Blake Tartare, has received critical praise. Blake has made a busy life for himself in New York City. He is a Composer in Residence in "The Jazz Composers Collective", a non-profit, musician run organization dedicated to presenting the original works of composers. Michael contributes to many Collective activities including Ben Allison's groups Medicine Wheel and Peace Pipe as well as their repertoire ensemble "The Herbie Nichols Project." Blake continues to actively record, compose and perform. Among the many artists Michael has recorded and performed with are Medeski, Martin and Wood, Gil Evans' Orchestra, Lee Konitz, Ben E. King, Tricky, Prince Paul, DJ Logic, Steven Bernstein, Roscoe Gordon, The Groove Colelctive, Jack McDuff, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Hal Wilner, Sir Coxone Dodd and Pinetop Perkins.
